Icebergs Dining Room, Bondi Beach

With an unparalleled view of Bondi Beach, Icebergs Dining Room is one of the best restaurants in Sydney for a long lunch session. Feasting on delicious food while gazing at the turquoise sea is my idea of a good time. While there were some mishaps with the reservations team (ie. the lady wouldn’t believe that I had a 1pm booking, even though I had email confirmations to prove it, and for a while was refusing to ‘fit us in’ – insert appropriately befuddled emoji here), it didn’t deter me from enjoying the food.

Executive chef Monty Koludrovic is killin’ it. I have the special of the day: beautifully pan-fried mahi mahi with herbs, crispy fried capers and pine nuts. This is freshness exemplified, guys. Meanwhile, the housemade spaghetti with king prawns is blanketed with a graceful slice of prosciutto. But it’s not all seafood at Icebergs. The steak is ridiculous – it’s so buttery and delicious, which says a lot coming from me because I’m not normally a steak kinda gal (I like zee carbs). It’s one hunk of a steak though: 200 grams of slow grown, grass fed Tasmanian eye fillet with wild, bitter and native leaves, braised barley, and riberry sauce. Hubba hubba.

We also share a side of peas, which you might think is boring, but is really, truly not. It’s in fact the opposite. It’s crazily flavorsome with biodynamic farro, celery, mint and salted ricotta. Who knew peas could be so tasty? For dessert, we share the contemporary and handsome pavlova, constructed with meringue shards and a vibrantly purple beetroot sorbet.
